HC Deb 26 October 1977 vol 936 cc811-2W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Industry whether he will give a general direction to the managers of the National Giro Service when in future they issue their annual results that these should be on the same basis as that adopted by industry generally, including directors' fees and expenses and balance sheets that can be compared with previous years.

Mr. Les Huckfield:

The report on the financial results for 1976–7 of the National Giro is in the form of an extract from the Post Office Report and Accounts for 1976–7, a copy of which has been laid before Parliament.

The report and accounts are on the same basis as that adopted by industry generally, and can be compared, both as a whole and in respect of individual businesses, with previous years. Note 4 includes a statement of the remuneration of members of the Post Office in accordance with the Companies Acts 1948 and 1967.
