HC Deb 26 October 1977 vol 936 c660W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the total Central Government expenditure on the same basis as 1975–76, per head of population for financing devolved services in Scotland and Wales, respectively.

Mr. Robert Sheldon:

Central Government expenditure on devolved services in Scotland and Wales in 1975–76 was £194 per head in Scotland and £154 per head in Wales. Because the extent to which services proposed for devolution to Scotland and Wales differ, the figure for Scotland is not precisely comparable with that for Wales.

Mr. Wigley

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will publish a table showing the identifiable expenditure in 1975–76 on housing per head of population in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, respectively, on the same basis as in Cmnd Paper 6890.

Mr. Joel Barnett:

Following is the information requested. The figures incorporate revisions to the figures in table 2 of Cmnd. 6890 to take account of later information, particularly on expenditure by local authorities.
