HC Deb 26 October 1977 vol 936 cc689-90W
Mr. Onslow

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what steps he has taken to enable Service personnel to take full advantage of the revised electoral registration procedures in the Representation of the People (Armed Forces) Act 1976; and if he will make a statement.

Dr. Gilbert:

Arrangements were made to ensure that all eligible members of the Regular Armed Forces and their spouses received electoral registration forms and copies of an explanatory leaflet. Additional publicity was given to the revised electoral registration procedures in the form of special posters and instructions issued to all units. Service newspapers also published advertisements which encouraged registration and reminded personnel of the closing dates for completing their registration forms.
