HC Deb 26 October 1977 vol 936 cc686-7W
Mr. Warren

asked the Minister for the Civil Service if the statement by the Director of the Central Computer Agency that the replacement of ageing Government computers could not be guaranteed in the present economic climate was made with his authority.

Mr. Charles R. Morris:

In his talk to Datafair 1977 on 6th October on the future patterns of Government use of computers the Director of the Central Computer Agency referred to the fact that many Government computer installations which were set up about 1970 would have to be renewed over the next five years with full continuity of operation; and that this would be difficult to guarantee in a period of tight financial constraint. This was a purely factual statement of an operational situation and did not require my prior approval.
