Mr. Stephen Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection if he will provide for no fees, or nominal ones, to be charged for the issue of a licence under the Consumer Credit Act 1974 to charitable organisations which make no charge for giving advice, such as on the availability of mortgages.

Mr. John Fraser

Licence fees under the Consumer Credit Act are principally a matter for the Director General of Fair Trading who, I understand, has recently written to the hon. Member on the subject.
