asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he is able to estimate the cost of social security payments in Scotland as a result of unemployment reaching and staying above the figure of 100,000.

The latest available six months expenditure on payments of unemployment benefit and supplementary allowances to the unemployed in Scotland (February to July 1977) is £73.5 million.
