§ Mr. Sproatasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer by what sum, and percentage, the total income tax take would be decreased by levying income tax on all income sources upon which income tax is currently levied, at the following rates:(a) 0 to £2,000 at 0 per cent., (b) £2,000 to £10,000 at 20 per cent. and (c) £10,000 upwards at 30 per cent.
§ Mr. Robert SheldonIf present personal allowances were withdrawn and tax charged at the rates suggested the estimated reduction in income tax for 1977–78 would be of the order of £10,400 million, which is about 57 per cent. of the forecast revenue from income tax for the year.
