HC Deb 29 November 1977 vol 940 c151W
Mr. Sillars

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is his estimate of the effect on Scottish employment of his most recent economic measures.

Mr. Denzil Davies

The measures announced on 26th October are estimated to produce an increase in employment in the United Kingdom as a whole of 30,000 in the first quarter of 1978 and 170,000 in the first quarter of 1979 compared with what otherwise would have happened. We would expect the proportionate increase in Scotland to be broadly in line with the United Kingdom as a whole. The Scottish share of the United Kingdom increase of £400 million in construction expenditure is £52 million.
