HC Deb 24 November 1977 vol 939 c910W
Mr. O'Halloran

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he is satisfied with the Government's progress on dealing with the problems of unemployment and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Concannon

I cannot be satisfied until the level of unemployment has been greatly reduced. However, substantial progress has been made by the Government in improving and extending their policies and programmes designed to encourage the creation and maintenance of employment in Northern Ireland. I believe that these measures, and the improving security situation, are producing a climate which is more conducive than it has been for several years to an upturn in investment in Northern Ireland.
