Mr. Carter,

pursuant to his reply 9th November [Official Report, 9th November 1977; Vol. 938, c. 147–8], gave the following information:

Exact information is not available and to obtain it would involve a disportionate cost.

The total number of persons living in warden-assisted housing provided by the Northern Ireland Housing Executive is between 3,500 and 3,800 and it is estimated that of this number very few are under pensionable age.

17 mobility dwellings have been built by the Northern Ireland Housing Executive since it became responsible for the provision of this accommodation in March 1976. On 15th November 1977, 55 further dwellings were under construction and another 20 proposed.

28 wheelchair dwellings have been built in the same period; 47 further dwellings are under construction and another 49 proposed.

A total 22 mobility dwellings in Northern Ireland meet the criteria specified in the Department of the Environment's Occasional Paper 2/74. It is not possible to say how many of these dwellings are located in each health board area, but 12 dwellings are located within the Northern Ireland Housing Executive's Western Region, seven within the Eastern Region and three within the Belfast Region.
