§ Mr. Staintonasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if, in view of the reliance currently placed upon the volunteer fire retained services, he will make a statement on the rôle of supplementary volunteer bodies and indicating his policy to encourage them in all fields over which he has responsibility.
§ Mr. Merlyn ReesRetained members of fire services are part-time employees of local authorities, and I know of no voluntary organisations whose activities are directly related to those of the fire services.
