Mr. George Gardiner

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he will consider introducing legislation to seek to secure better fire warning systems in factory farm buildings.

Mr. Strang

We have no evidence that livestock are unduly at risk in these buildings, but the Farm Animal Welfare Advisory Committee is about to review the position, and my right hon. Friend the Minister will consider its findings.
