HC Deb 23 November 1977 vol 939 c786W
45. Mr. Sainsbury

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment when he will announce the membership of the Housing Consultative Council proposed in the housing policy consultative document.

Mr. Shore

The Green Paper on Housing Policy (Cmnd 6851) set out the Government's proposals to establish a Housing Consultative Council for England with representatives of the local authorities and the Department of the Environment, and I have issued invitations to attend the first meeting, which is arranged to take place on Friday 25th November, accordingly.

It is proposed that the Housing Consultative Council should consist of the following representation:

DOE

Secretary of State, Minister and officials.

District authorities

Six members to be selected by the Association of District Councils.

Metropolitan authorities

Six members to be selected by the Association of Metropolitan Authorities, the London Boroughs Association and the Greater London Council.

County Councils

One member to be selected by the Association of County Councils.

It may also be desirable from time to time for representatives of other bodies to attend when their particular interest is being discussed.
