HC Deb 16 November 1977 vol 939 c261W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Transport how many persons have been killed and injured, respectively, in road accidents in Great Britain to date in 1977; and how this compares with corresponding figures for the same period in 1976.

Mr. Horam

In the period January to August 1977, the latest month for available data, 4,000 people were killed in road accidents, 52,000 were seriously injured and 163,000 slightly injured. Compared with the same period last year, deaths decreased by 2 per cent. and seriously injured and slightly injured casualties increased by 3 per cent. and 5 per cent. respectively.
