asked the Secretary of State for Transport what estimates his Department has of the amount of derelict land currently owned by British Railways.

This information tion is not readily available from BRB. A DOE survey of derelict land in England, issued in May 1975, showed at 1st April 1974 about 9,000 hectares of "abandoned British Rail land", of which some 6,400 was considered suitable for restoration. There is no more up-to-date information.
