§ Mr. Carlisleasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the maximum prison wage per week paid to those who work (a) flat rate for non-industrial work, (b) piece rate and (c) under special incentive pay schemes; and to how many prisoners the latter scheme applies to.
§ Mr. JohnIn England and Wales the maximum weekly payments to prisoners —disregarding overtime—under the three schemes to which the hon. and learned Member refers are as follows:
- (a) £1.35 to £1.41, depending upon grade of job;
- (b) £1.68;
- (c) £1.39 to £2.93 depending up the standard working week and level of skill which apply in the particular shop.
About 4,200 prisoners participate in special incentive schemes.
