HC Deb 16 November 1977 vol 939 cc251-2W
54. Mr. Costain

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he is aware that the delays in implementing the proposals to improve the A259 trunk road through Hythe and his refusal to reduce the speed limit have resulted in an increasing num- ber of TIR vehicles using this road, a loss of amenities, and possible danger to the structure of old buildings in this narrow road; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Horam

We have no evidence that delay in improving the road and the refusal of a lower speed limit is the cause of any increase in its use by heavy vehicles. In spite of difficulties encountered in preparing a draft compulsory purchase order, it is hoped to start construction towards the end of 1978.
