HC Deb 15 November 1977 vol 939 cc157-8W
52. Mr. Hardy

asked the Secretary of State for Transport in how many areas of England and Wales he is satisfied that adequate training opportunity exists for those wishing to ride two-wheeled motor vehicles.

Mr. William Rodgers

The adequacy of training in individual areas is a matter for local authorities in England and Wales. Nationally, however, I estimate that less than 10 per cent. of riders at present receive training. It is for this reason that I have welcomed the recent decision of the motor cycle industry to establish a new nationwide training scheme.
