HC Deb 14 November 1977 vol 939 c49W
Mr. Adam Butler

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he is aware of the delays and urgent need for the erection of 40 miles per hour signs in Rugby Road Hinckley; and when he expects to give approval to the relevant traffic order.

Mr. Horam

I am aware that no decision has yet been given on the application made by the Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council for consent to a traffic regulation order to impose a 40 mph speed limit on a new length of Rugby Road. This is largely because the information essential for consideration of its proposal was not received until 27th October 1977. The application is still being considered and it cannot be assumed that consent will necessarily be given.

The Department is looking into the signing situation on Rugby Road but in the meantime the local highway authority could, if it wished, erect terminal 40 m.p.h. speed limit signs on Rugby Road where the old and new lengths meet, some 210 metres north of the junction of Coventry Road.
