HC Deb 10 November 1977 vol 938 c219W
Ms Colquhoun

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what action his Department is taking to deal with ancient laws that are no longer relevant in today's society ; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. John:

The Law Commission and Criminal Law Revision Committee are the main bodies engaged in the codification of the law and when ancient laws come within their reviews they make recommendations as to their retention, repeal or replacement by modern provisions. In addition, when new legislation is planned, opportunity is taken to consider any ancient laws relevant to that legislation.
