Mr. Wyn Roberts

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will publish his proposals for reducing the staff of his Department in Wales, indicating how the reduction will affect each area.

Mr. Newton

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether his Department keeps records of postoperative infection in National Health Service hospitals ; and what proportion of patients are affected.

Mr. Moyle:

No special records of postoperative infection in National Health Service hospitals are held centrally nor are any comprehensive statistics available.
