HC Deb 09 November 1977 vol 938 cc111-2W
Mrs. Knight

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will now alter the salary structure arrangements so that a senior registrar anaesthetist applying for a consultant's post will not suffer a salary cut if his application is successful.

Mr. Moyle:

The salary structure of hospital doctors is a matter not for me but for the independent Review Body on Doctors' and Dentists' Remuneration. In its last report—May 1977, Cmnd. 6800—the review body drew attention to the problem of relativities between the earnings of senior registrars and newly-appointed consultants, and I have no doubt that it will be making appropriate recommendations as soon as practicable.
