§ Mr. Frank Allaunasked the Secretary of State for the Environment in view of the fact that some rent officers are refusing to register rents agreed between landlords and tenants and instead are setting a rent considerably higher than that 728W agreed, if he will issue a circular prohibiting this practice.
§ Mr. ArmstrongNo. Rent officers have a statutory duty to register a fair rent in accordance with the requirements set out in Section 46 of the Rent Act 1968. Landlords are free to charge less than the fair rent if they wish.
