HC Deb 26 May 1977 vol 932 c564W
26. Mr. James Johnson

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will give the national figures for the amounts of hard drugs, heroin and cocaine seized in seaports and ariports for the years 1974–75, 1975–76 and 1976–77, and in particular for the port of Hull; and what steps he is taking to prevent this.

Mr. Denzil Davies

Approximately 2.5, 4, 17 and 19 kilograms of heroin and 9, 8, 9 and 8 kilograms of cocaine were seized by Customs at seaports and airports during the calendar years 1974, 1975, 1976 and 1977 to date respectively, including one seizure of 1.2 kilograms of heroin at Hull in 1975. It would not be in the public interest to disclose the measures being taken, but Customs are very active and increasingly successful in this field.
