§ Mr. Newtonasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, further to his reply to the hon. Member for Woolwich, West (Mr. Bottomley) Official Report, 4th April 1977, c. 351–3, he will indicate whether the additional cost of £100 million for paying tax credits to people over the age of 65 years was based on the assumption that the equivalent of the age allowance would be attributed to all those over the age of 65 years, irrespective of their income and without the current means tested element.
