HC Deb 09 May 1977 vol 931 c343W
32. Mr. John H. Osborn

asked the Secretary of State for Trade whether he will now take steps in conjunction with the EEC to put anti-dumping duties on sets of ratchets, as recently drawn to this attention by hand-tool manufacturers, and make efforts to speed up the process of preventing hardship on British and other EEC manufacturers.

Mr. Meacher

I assume that the hon. Member is referring to the application concerning socket sets. A team from our Anti-Dumping Unit is now in Japan, acquiring evidence on which a final decision can be made. I have considered very carefully the request for a provisional charge to duty but I have concluded that it would not be appropriate. So far as I am aware, there is no wider Community interest in this problem.
