HC Deb 09 May 1977 vol 931 c318W
Mr. Kilroy-Silk

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) if it is his policy to issue firearms certificates to those threatened with attack by the Irish Republican Army or other organisations;

(2) if Sidney John O'Shea, of 54 Eaton Road, Liverpool, a member of West Derby Conservative Club, was issued with a firearm certificate in order to protect himself following threats to the club from the Irish Republican Army.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

The issue of a firearms certificate under the Firearms Act 1968 is a matter for the chief officer of police, who has to be satisfied that the applicant has a good reason for purchasing or acquiring and having the firearm in his possession.
