HL Deb 09 May 1977 vol 383 c154WA
Lord O'HAGAN

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What steps they have taken during their Presidency of the Council of Ministers of the EEC to review and strengthen the controls over the movement of livestock.

Lord STRABOLGI

In the field of animal welfare, we have given priority to the laws that regulate animal transport. All Member States now observe the European Convention for the Protection of Animals during International Transport and discussions are proceeding at Brussels with a view to incorporating the provisions of that Convention into Community law. By this means we aim to co ordinate and strengthen the separate national requirements.

House adjourned at eleven minutes past nine o'clock.
