HC Deb 09 May 1977 vol 931 c316W
Mr. Sainsbury

asked the Minister for the Civil Service how many places at the Civil Service College are currently and were in each of the past five years taken by persons not employed in the Civil Service; and what proportion this represents of the total numbers attending courses during this period.

Mr. Charles R. Morris

So far in the current academic year, 1976–77, 759 people not employed in the Civil Service have attended courses and seminars run by the Civil Service College. This represents 12.9 per cent. of the total numbers attending the college during this period. Of these total numbers, many would have been on courses not likely to be useful except to civil servants.

In the preceding five years, the total numbers attending have been as follows:

Academic Year Number of non-civil servants attending Civil Service College courses Proportion of the total numbers attending Per cent.
1975–76 1,445 13.5
1974–75 1,425 13.8
1973–74 1,068 11.3
1972–73 1,123 13.0
1971–72 915 11.0
