HC Deb 03 May 1977 vol 931 cc109-10W
Mr. Gould

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection if he will make regulations concerning the safety of oil lamps.

Mr. John Fraser

My Department has today circulated for comment a draft of proposed regulations, to be made under the Consumer Protection Act 1961, setting out safety requirements for oil lamps intended for indoor domestic use, including hurricane lamps suitable for this purpose. The regulations, which are based on the provisions of British Standard 2049: 1976, will be made as soon as possible. It will then be an offence to offer for sale in Great Britain any lamp that does not comply with the prescribed requirements.
