HC Deb 03 May 1977 vol 931 cc171-2W
Miss Joan Lestor

asked the Secretary of State for Employment for each year since 1960, what was (a) the average industrial male earnings and (b) the personal disposable income per head.

Mr. Golding

The following estimates of (a) average gross weekly earnings are based on my Department's regular inquiry each October into the earnings and hours of manual workers in manufacturing industries in the United Kingdom. They relate to full-time manual men aged 21 and over. The estimates of (b) annual income per head of population in the United Kingdom are compiled by the Central Statistical Office using the national accounts definition of personal disposable income.
