Mr. Geoffrey Finsberg

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will give the unemployment figures for St. Ives on the latest convenient date; and if he will give comparative figures for the same period in 1973.

Mr. Golding

At 14th April 1977, the provisional number of people registered as unemployed in the St. Ives employment office area was 595, compared with 337 on 9th April 1973.

The table below shows the payments into and out of the Redundancy Fund since January 1976. The figures are in respect of the four or five week period ending on the last Friday of each calendar month.

as unemployed in the Kirkby employment office area, which includes Kirkby West, was 10,603, compared with 3,721 on 9th April 1973. Figures are not available for Kirkby West alone.

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will publish the number of persons unemployed in Wales at the latest available date, together with corresponding figures for the same month in each of the past five years.
