HC Deb 02 May 1977 vol 931 c51W
Mr. Sproat

asked the Secretary of State for Defence whether any dictation of letters or documents, or any other work originating with personnel of his Department in London, is, or has been within the last 12 months, sent for typing, or any other secretarial service, to Newcastle, or any other part of the United Kingdom outside London; and if he will make a statement.

Dr. Gilbert

It has been general practice for many years for a proportion of typing work originating in central London to be sent outside London. This practice allows the Department to make more flexible use of staff and resources. No typing service, has however, been established at Newcastle upon Tyne for this purpose.
