HL Deb 30 March 1977 vol 381 cc1022-3WA
Lord AVEBURY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will give the names of persons or organisations, other than the parties to appeals, to whom copies of Immigration Appeals Tribunal determinations were sent as a matter of course prior to and after July 1976 respectively; and if they will give an estimate of the number of appeals before Adjudicators and Tribunals respectively in which each of the organisations who received copies of all determinations represented the appellants or respondents.

Lord HARRIS of GREENWICH

As explained in reply to a Question by the noble Lord on 15th February, the arrangements for the supply of copies of determinations of the Tribunal are a matter for the appellate authority. I understand, however, that prior to July 1976, 24 copies of the Tribunal determinations were sent to the Home Office: 7 to the United Kingdom Immigrants Advisory Service; one to the Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants and one to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Since July last, when it was necessary to introduce economies, only two copies have been distributed, one to the Home Office and one to the United Kingdom Immigrants Advisory Service.

As I stated in reply to the noble Lord's earlier Question, information about the number of appeals in which particular individuals or organisations have represented appellants could not be obtained without disproportionate effort.

Lord CHELWOOD

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will publish a table showing in dollar terms on a per capita basis defence expenditure in 1975 and 1976 by all NATO countries for which they have comparable figures, devoted to (a) the production of new equipment; (b) production of spares, etc.; (c) development of approved weapons systems; and (d) research.

Lord WINTERBOTTOM

Comparative NATO information is not available in the form requested. Expenditure on new equipment per head of population is
