§ Mr. Churchillasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what assistance in financial and practical terms Her Majesty's Government have afforded to date to the victims of the Romanian earthquake; and what further assistance he has in mind.
§ Mr. LuardImmediately after the earthquake the Government sent medical supplies worth £7,000 to Romania. Arrangements to send further emergency relief worth £23,000 were halted when the Romanian Government announced that further help of this kind was not needed. Advice is at present being given to the Romanians by two British seismologists, who have gone to Bucharest at the British Government's expense. Her Majesty's Ambassador in Bucharest is in close touch with the Romanian authorities about ways in which the Government might contribute to the longer-term task of repairing the damage to the Romanian economy. A further sum of £100,000 has been earmarked for this purpose.
