HC Deb 15 March 1977 vol 928 c146W
29. Mr. David Price

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what advice she is now prepared to give to local education authorities as to the optimum and minimum desirable sizes for infant schools, junior schools, middle schools, secondary schools without a sixth form and secondary schools with a sixth form, respectively.

Miss Margaret Jackson

There is no ideal size for a particular type of school, and, therefore, my right hon. Friend does not propose to issue advice on the question to local education authorities. It is for local education authorities or voluntary bodies to propose the establishment, or significant enlargement or closure, of schools, as the case may he, and all such proposals, including the size of the schools involved, are considered on their merits.
