Mr. Forman

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many students there are in institutions of higher and further education (a) in the Merton ILEA area and (b) in each of the outer London boroughs; and what are the latest projections in each case for the years 1980 and 1986, respectively.

The information for 1975–76, the latest available academic year, is set out below. The figures include students at university institutions and voluntary colleges.

Information from school leavers sample surveys relating to ILEA and the outer London boroughs is not readily available prior to 1974–75. However, since 1964–65 analysis have been produced for the whole Greater London area and the following table gives the relevant figures for 1964–65, 1969–70 and 1974–75.
