HC Deb 10 March 1977 vol 927 cc668-9W
Mr. Hall-Davis

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many children are currently attending Broughton-in-Furness Primary School; what rooms are available in the school and their respective floor areas; in what respects and to what extent the present buildings fall short of the target standards laid down by her Department for new schools; and whether she will authorise a replacement for this school.

Miss Margaret Jackson

I understand from the Cumbria Local Education Authority that in January 1977 there were 91 pupils attending the Brought-on-in-Furness Church of England Controlled Primary School and that the school has a total teaching area of 141 sq. metres comprising three rooms of 70 sq. metres, 40 sq. metres and 31 sq. metres respectively. To conform to the Standards for School Premises Regulations 1972 new premises for this number of pupils of primary school age would require a minimum teaching area of 259 sq. metres. When school building allocations for 1978–79 are announced, it will be for the Cumbria Local Education Authority to decide what priority to give to a replacement project.
