asked the Secretary of State for Defence what is the direct cost to the Defence Vote of operations in Northern Ireland; and, of this total, how much relates to the Ulster Defence Regiment.

The estimated extra costs of military operations in Northern Ireland for 1976–77 is £63 million, of which about £13 million relates to the cost, excluding equipment, of the Ulster Defence Regiment.
