HC Deb 10 March 1977 vol 927 c650W
68. Sir John Gilmour

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he has records of the amount of fish caught in each of the last five years by Icelandic boats in the area of sea around Scotland which is now within the United Kingdom 200-mile limit; and, if he has no such records, whether it is possible to make an estimate.

Mr. Hugh D. Brown

The following statistical information is published by the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea and gives Icelandic catches, which were mainly of herring, up to 1975 for the North Sea, where the catches are taken largely off the Scottish coast, and from the waters to the north and west of Scotland. The corresponding figures for 1976 are not yet available.

Nominal live weight thousand tones North Sea
1972 32.6
1973 39.5
1974 36.1
1975 16.5

Nominal live weight thousand tonnes North and West Scotland
1972 2.1
1973 2.6
1974 6.9
1975 2.7
