HC Deb 10 March 1977 vol 927 cc614-5W
Mr. Dempsey

asked the Lord President of the Council if he will introduce an additional allowance to meet rising costs of subsistence and living accommodation to those peers who are forced to live away from home in order to attend daily sittings of the House of Lords; if he will introduce a resolution for this purpose; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Foot

The introduction of a new allowance would be contrary to incomes policy, but the question of peer's expenses allowance is being considered in the light of a report recently forwarded to the Prime Minister by the Top Salaries Review Body. An announcement will be made shortly.
