§ Mr. Nicholas Wintertonasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department in view of the continuing increase in crimes of armed violence resulting in murder, if he will seek powers to use a referendum procedure to ascertain the views of the electors of the United Kingdom on the reintroduction of capital punishment for the following categories of offence: (a) murder of a prison officer in the course of his duty, (b) murder of a policeman or policewoman in the course of duty, (c) armed robbery resulting in death, and (d) acts of terrorism resulting in death; and if he will make a statement.
