Mr. MacGregor

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will list the major road schemes controlled by the Eastern Road Construction Unit now under construction or in the road programme, with current starting dates, and the previous starting date prior to the recent changes in the road programme as a whole.

Recent decisions on the road programme related only to the timing of schemes due to start during 1977–78, and resulted in delays of up to six months for those schemes. The start dates of all schemes controlled by Eastern RCU are now expected to be as follows:

The possible start date of schemes depends on many factors including engineering design, statutory procedures and availability of resources. Any start dates given must be taken as subject to change. They will be advanced wherever circumstances permit. They are quoted in bands:

  • (u) under construction.
  • (a) 1977.
  • (b) 1978 and 1979.
  • (c) 1980–1982.
  • (d) 1983–1985.
  • (e) After 1985.
  • (f) No start date determined.
