asked the Secretary of State for Employment by how much unemployment has risen in Birmingham since February 1974.

Between February 1974 and February 1977 the numbers registered as unemployed in Birmingham increased by 23,187. The figure relates to the area covered by the Birmingham, Aston, Handsworth, Selly Oak, Small Health, Sparkhill, Sutton Coldfield and Washwood Heath employment offices.

The number of people trained under the training opportunities scheme in London has been increased from 8,300 in 1975 to 12,400 in 1976: the target for 1977 is 13,400.
