HC Deb 24 June 1977 vol 933 cc637-8W
Rev. Ian Paisley

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland (1) what was the number of Royal Ulster Constabulary stations erected in Northern Ireland in each of the years 1972 to 1976;

(2) what was the number of Royal Ulster Constabulary stations extended in each of the years 1972 to 1976;

(3) what was the number of Royal Ulster Constabulary stations closed down or partly closed in each of the years 1972 to 1976.

Mr. Dunn

I am informed by the Police Authority for Northern Ireland that new stations were completed at North Queen Street, Belfast, in 1973 and at Strand Road, Londonderry, in 1975. As a consequence, the old stations at Glenravel Street, Belfast, and Victoria, Londonderry, were closed.

A number of existing properties have been acquired and converted for use as police stations and police posts. Major extensions were completed at Greencastle RUC station in 1973 and at Glengormley in 1975, and a considerable number of other stations have been renovated or extended by the use of temporary sectional buildings. Other building work is in progress.
