Mr. Knox

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer by how much the cost of living has risen in the United Kingdom since the EEC was founded in 1958; and, from information available from international sources, what are the comparable figures for the other member countries of the European Economic Community.

From—January 1958 to April 1977, the latest date for which figures are generally available, the percentage increase in the cost of living for each of the nine member countries was as follows:
