HC Deb 23 June 1977 vol 933 c492W
Mr. Robinson

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services when he will publish the report of the Occupational Pensions Board on occupational pension scheme cover for disabled people; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Orme

The Board's report (Cmnd. 6849) was laid before the House on Tuesday 21st June 1977 and copies have been placed in the Library. The report will be published as soon as practicable.

It is most encouraging that the report says that a more informed attitude to the admission of disabled people to occupational pension schemes has developed among employers in recent years. The Government are reassured by the Board's conclusion that there is no problem of any significant size in relation to pension scheme cover for disabled people.

The Government accept that the improvements in pension schemes suggested by the Board should be brought about by voluntary action, as recommended by the Board, rather than by legislation. I hope that the Board's recommended improvements will commend themselves to those whose schemes so far do not conform.
