§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Secretary of State for Social Services why he will not allow a person, details of whom have been supplied to him, the full details and findings of an official inquiry into the irreparable damage done to a woman by a brain operation; on what statutory authority he prevents people and hon. Members seeing their own personal medical records; and whether he will make a statement.
§ Mr. MoyleThe inquiry to which my hon. Friend refers was an independent one, set up by the Kensington and Chelsea and Westminster Area Health Authority (Teaching). It is for that authority to decide to whom its detailed report should be made available.
A decision on disclosure from a patient's medical record is for the doctor responsible for his treatment at the time to take and is not a matter in which it would be appropriate for me to intervene.
