HC Deb 21 June 1977 vol 933 cc406-7W
53. Mr. John H. Osborn

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what reply he will make to the petitions from those who know of the work and care for children at the Thornbury Annex to the Sheffield Children's Hospital, and the advice he has received from paediatricians for the continuance of this establishment; and if he will take these views into account in an inquiry prior to closure of the hospital.

Mr. Moyle

Responsibility for determining the closure of health buildings rests with area health authorities, subject to adequate local consultation and the agreement of community health councils. At its meeting on 13th June, Sheffield AHA(T) rejected the proposed closure of Thornbury Annex pending provisions of information about options for rationalising hospital services for children in the area as a whole.
