§ Mr. Robert Hughesasked the Attorney-General if he will publish in the Official Report the number of cases of alleged contravention of the Rhodesian 319W Sanctions Orders which have been investigated by the Director of Public Prosecutions and the number of cases in which prosecutions have been initiated; and if he will make a statement on the effectiveness of the Rhodesia Sanctions Orders.
§ The Solicitor-General,pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 13th June 1977; Vol. 933, c. 25], gave the fallowing information:
Forty-seven cases of possible breaches of the Southern Rhodesia (United Nations Sanctions) (No. 2) Order 1968 have been referred to the Director of Public Prosecutions. Prosecutions have been initiated in four cases; a decision is pending in three cases and a caution has been advised in six cases. In addition, 11 cases of possible breaches of other legislation relating to Rhodesian sanctions have been referred to the Director of Public Prosecutions. In five of these cases—involving exchange control offences—a prosecution has been initiated; in two cases a caution has been advised. Furthermore, Her Majesty's Commissioners of Customs and Excise have initiated proceedings in 18 cases involving offences against Customs legislation relating to export and import of goods to and from Rhodesia.
